Background
Before beginning her Alcohol and Drug Studies Program in 1989 at Pacific Oaks College and becoming a certified substance abuse and addiction counselor, Barbara Susan Ferrari obtained work experience in business administration. She has spent extensive time while employed in medical offices, as well as in the health club industry, including personal and group fitness trainers. Ms. Ferrari's work responsibilities related to these settings included accounting, accounts payable and receivable, advertising, appointments, billing, bookkeeping, both front and back office management and assistant, general client care, hiring, inventory, ordering product, payroll, phones, reception, sales, scheduling, and training. Ms. Ferrari's work experience with the chemically addicted population and twelve step recovery includes working in two psychiatric hospital settings with dual diagnosed adult and adolescent inpatient clients. That work included aftercare coordinator, alcohol and drug educational instruction charting notes, group counseling, intakes, making assessments, one on one counseling, placement, and referrals. Ms. Ferrari also had the opportunity to work in a number of residential recovery hospital settings managing individual and group counseling, intake appointments and assessments, as well as family group therapy. Most recently and to date, she continues to work with the chemically dependent population in family therapy maintaining progress notes, group therapy, individual therapy, and reports. Ms. Ferrari is involved in case management and referral along with staff meetings and the supervision of students. Recognizing the need to expand her knowledge to better understand and work at deeper rooted involvements of addiction, she obtained her Master's Degree in Psychology in 2004. Before beginning as a licensed marriage and family therapist, Ms. Ferrari has had a wide variety of clinical experience and treating a diverse population. Her experience includes treating clients with abuse, anger management, anxiety, crisis interventions, depression, grief and loss, parenting issues, post-traumatic stress disorder, and relationship conflicts. She has preoccupied the past twenty-eight years with the addicted and dual diagnosed population, in addition to becoming a certified domestic violence counselor.
